I am trying to venture into the drugstore mascara world and I bought L’Oreal’s Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara in the waterproof formula.  Oh my gosh, it’s terrible!!  Not only does it smudge onto my undereyes, but once it does – this stuff does NOT come off your skin unless you carry around a bottle of makeup remover in your purse.  This may shock you, but I don’t ;) .  It’s supposed to stay on your LASHES not rub off onto your skin where it stays there ALL day!  I definitely do not recommend!

We’ve all been faced with the task of packing for the perfect trip, and when it came down to it I bet that all of us at one time or another have over packed.  Consider your honeymoon and try to pack to get that right! Recently as I was traveling and waiting for companions by the airline check in; I spotted this tired looking young couple early on a Sunday morning and I thought to myself that they look like they are on their honeymoon.  She was a tiny little thing with this gigantic suitcase on wheels; he was an average sized man with a large bag as well.

As their turn arrived to check in those monsters on wheels – the silent drama played out before me. It was obvious from my vantage point that they both over packed! The bags must have been over the minimum weight allowed by the airline before they tack on additional fees. The scramble began – she opened her bag – there were shoes, clothes, large bottles of lotions and potions and on and on and on.

His bag proved to be just as loaded – he had 4 pairs of shoes! As they worked to distribute and reduce the weight you could see the frustration building and this time I thought what a way to start such an important event.

In order to successfully pack to look fabulous on your honeymoon and get the event started on a positive note first check out your airlines policy for baggage- most are charging per bag and have a 35-50lb limit per bag. So the first step is to avoid packing those big bags, your tendency to over pack large bags is very easy! So grab an average sized bag; buy travel size of your must haves and if your favorite personal products do not come in travel sizes, you can buy small bottles at any department store to make your own and get going! Keep in mind the size limits the FAA has put on carry-on toiletries. Check-out their website for more information.

Now the next few sentences I have to type will be very hard to read ladies – but trust me you will be a little tired and very excited as you go off on your honeymoon and you want to start it off right! So rather than spend a lot of money many outfits to take with you, consider a few outfits and spend more on accessories that can change to look of your limited wardrobe.  Use the extra money you’ve saved on the wardrobe and treat your new husband to a special dinner and perhaps some lingerie surprises!

Cupid’s Bow

July 27, 2010

It’s said that the Cupid’s bow is a facial feature where the double curve of a human upper lip is said to resemble the bow of Cupid. Sounds romantic and perhaps just the thing for your wedding day.  If your goal is to focus on your lips here are tips for your lips!

Red is the hot shade for lips this season, but reds are tricky. Skin tone has to be considered and reds must be tested before the big day.

Fair skin tones are best suited to a red with blue or brown undertones

Medium to dark skin tones work best with deeper reds with a tinge of brown or tawny tones.

Dark skin tones work best with dramatic pinkish reds like fuchsia or reds with an orange base.

One more thing to consider – if your teeth are not brilliant white you can still wear red! Look for a red shade with blue undertones. Reds with a yellow or orange base will make teeth appear discolored.

Lips liners are still an essential tool but to keep the look current use a neutral shade prior to applying lipstick. Keep in mind that matte lips tend to overpower your face; high gloss can cheapen your look and light shimmer is the right touch!

The Eyes Have It!

July 26, 2010

Kim Kardashian pulls off this seasons trend with a new twist on the smokey eye – instead of black’s and browns to achieve this look we are now seeing purple’s, gray’s, jewel tones and metallic’s.

This look can be very dramatic or can be softened up by just a ring of black liner, gray shadow with a bit of navy shadow for a hint of smokiness and softened up with a soft pink shadow for a sparkle as shown below on Marion Cottiard.

If you feel smokey is not for you but would still like to emphasize your eyes consider using the shade lilac. As shown on the model lilac is applied on the upper lid and a touch heavier under the lower lashes.

If you prefer a natural look, go with the metallics; such as gold and bronze eye shadows.  As seen on January Jones very soft yet dramatic.

Keep in mind to truly achieve this season’s look if you focus on the eyes remember to keep the rest of the face natural. Depending on whether or not you focus on your eyes on thing that is essential for you to look your best in your pictures is to add eyelashes, this overall look will keep you looking fresh for your special day.

The dress that was provided to us courtesy of The Frock Shop was so classy and a little bit vintage that we had to rock it out a bit.  The flowers that Kristen of Kio Kreations created were filled with all different shades of pinks, purples and blues and accented with feathers and lace.  It was my favorite bouquet from the shoot!  We rocked KC out with a dark purple smokey eye inspired by the flowers, we the defined eyebrows and kept the lips pale to draw attention to the eyes and not compete with them. The hairpiece that Megan Lim created was perfect and adorable to use on any day besides your wedding day.
