This is my first tutorial so please bare with me and feel free to email me if you have questions! I was condensing my kit over the weekend and was purposely breaking my favorite eye shadows to put them in palettes and thought someone could use this advice when they accidentally break their favorite eye shadows and blushes! All you need is the eyeshadow in the original container, rubbing alcohol, a spray bottle for the alcohol is optional, some change (pennies, nickels, dimes) and clean fabric that you don’t need (maybe a shirt that is ripped that you don’t need anymore).
First I take my palette knife (you can use a butter knife) and crush up the eyeshadow in the original container until you remove all of the clumps and make it as powdery as possible!
After I do that, I drop 6-10 drops of alcohol onto the eyeshadow. I do just enough so I can spray a few sprays of alcohol after that without the powder going all over the place.

Now that it is wet but not drowning, I measure the tin to see what household item matches up to it in size and fits inside. Usually I can get close with nickels, dimes, quarters and they are the easiest to work with. If you have something larger, like a blush, you can use a bottle cap from a juice jug or something along those lines.
Now that you have measured the opening, stick the coin/cap into some fabric whether it be a ripped shirt, kitchen towel you don’t use, etc. I am using a sock that lost it’s other half (yes it’s clean!). Spray/dip the fabric liberally with alcohol (this also helps to disinfect and prevent it from sticking to the powder). Now use it like a stamp to press the eyeshadow into the tin to condense it. Press firmly.

Now let it dry completely before using (usually an hour is super safe, alcohol dries quickly). It’s super easy, quick and saves you some money so you don’t have to buy a new one! Good luck!

I am happy to announce yet another Makeup Artist to join Cynthia Sally Makeup and Hair Artistry! Her name is Maris and she is SO excited to be part of the team. She has already assisted me with weddings on a freelance basis but now she is officially free to take on her own weddings! I am FLOORED by her talent and I know she is an awesome addition. When she was in the testing phase I had to try to keep my composure and not jump up and down because I so thrilled with her knowledge of makeup and application technique. Of course she is laid back, calming and has a sweet personality that I was looking for as well. Maris started out in cosmetic retail, realized her passion for it and began freelancing. She then went on to London Eyes International Academy where she learned all aspects of makeup (including airbrush) and received her certification in makeup artistry. Below is a pic of her work – need I say more?!?!

Most of you know that I am a huge fan of Smashbox. I love their eyeshadows, their famous primers, lip glosses, foundations, everything! I heard some sad news last night in a press release and it could be the worst news possible for this company….Estee Lauder is looking to buy them out and is very close in doing so.
If you have read my previous post about how Estee Lauder purchased MAC and totally changed their formulations, you know why this upsets me so. I can only hope that Estee Lauder doesn’t do the same thing they did with MAC and change the formulations, make the product not as good, but still charge the same for it. And no, I am not anti-Estee Lauder, it would be nearly impossible to be since they also own Stila, Bobbi Brown, Prescriptives, La Mer, Aveda, etc but I haven’t stepped foot into a MAC store for 2 years – and that is because they changed the product and there’s no use for it in my kit anymore (let alone my face!).
Even worse is that the great grandsons of legendary makeup icon, Max Factor, founded Smashbox. I understand business is business but I just pray that Estee Lauder learned their lesson when they took over MAC and ruined the product integrity…that they don’t do that with Smashbox.

PUCKER UP! At nearly every wedding I do and when I do my own makeup, I almost always bust out this pencil. One of my favorite little secrets is the Cargo Reverse Lip Liner. I don’t know how I lived without it!! It is a skin colored pencil that can be used to help those with smaller lips, those that just need help defining the lip, fixing mistakes or even brightening the eye!

Here are some tips on how to use it:
DEFINE THE LIP
If you want to have a natural looking lip, maybe you are going to the beach and only want to wear a little bit of lipgloss, the reverse liner is perfect to create a clean lip line without using lipliner. Instead of a lip liner where you apply color on the lip, you are using it as an eraser to clean up the lip from the outside in…genius!
TO CREATE THE ILLUSION OF BIGGER LIPS
When applying colored lipliner, create a slightly thicker line at the outer part of the lips to draw them on thicker (not too much, just a little). It’s easiest to start with the cupids bow first, then the bottom of the lip to create your starting point and work outwards. Fill in the entire lip with the same lipliner. Use the reverse lipliner at the top of the cupids bow and blend. Apply lipstick. Use a slighter lighter shade of lipstick in the middle of the lips and blend outwards. It will give you just the amount of pout you need!
BRIGHTEN THE EYE
Now hopefully you have read my section on sanitation before you do this…make sure you spray your liner with alcohol and sharpen it if you are trying this on the eye area (and after you use it for that matter!). This pencil is great to use on the inner corners of the eye lid to brighten up your eyes and give you a little bit of perkiness! Just draw a little dot and blend a bit for the perfect eye opener.
FIX IT
If you make a mistake on your lipliner or if you color over the lines when putting on your lipstick – use this lip pencil as an eraser to fix your mistakes!

This is up there with the question I am asked most….how to get rid of dark circles. Unfortunately, for most of us, this is an inherited trait so it is hard to reverse. Here’s some help for you.
Always wear SPF under your eye, sun promotes melanin levels.
Use eye cream every day and night. My favorite mixture is Philosophy’s Eye Hope during the day and Murad’s Lighten and Brighten eye cream at night. They may have high price tags but they will last you a long time, all you need is a little dot of product, a little goes a long way.
Use a concealer that has a little bit of salmon color to it. Or if they are really dark, use Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray which serves as an eyeshadow primer AND can be used under the eyes, then put your concealer over it. Benefit’s Erase Paste has a salmon tint to it that is just divine. If it’s noticable and looks too bright/pink, put a concealer over it that is one shade or two shades lighter than your complexion.
After you are done with the steps above, powder to set the concealer. One with a little bit of a yellow tint would be perfect but translucent will do just fine.
You should see a huge difference!
Now some extra pointers…
Use smudge-proof mascara, I really like the Loreal Collagen Mascara – although some of the reviews I have read are not that good-it never smudges for me!
Remove your eye makeup every night.
Lastly, be gentle around your under eye area, the skin is very thin around that area and sensitive – be gentle!
