I have to just deal with the fact that some people will opt for drug store cosmetics because they are either on a budget, prefer the convenience of picking up their makeup products while at the grocery store or drug store and sometimes, it’s a little bit of both. I thought it might be helpful to give you a comparison of better vs best products so you can either upgrade your current drugstore makeup or at least buy the best drugstore products out there if you choose to go that route. I realize not everyone is a makeup product snob like me
Foundation
Better is the L’Oreal True Match Line – it gives great coverage and the variety of colors can’t be beat. $8.76 at Drugstore.com
Best
Makeup Forever HD Foundation, it has more pigment and will cover more than L’Oreal’s True Match with an extremely flawless finish. $40 at Sephora.com
Eyeshadows
This one is a little bit of a reach but the drugstore brand with the most pigment is represented.
Better is NYX eyeshadows. $5.99 at Amazon.com or Ulta
Best is Urban Decay Eyeshadow. $17 at Sephora.com
Mascara
Better is CoverGirl’s Lash Blast Mascara (NOT the Fusion). The brush lengthens and separates. $7.79 at drugstore.com
Best is Buxom’s Lash available exclusively at Sephora (recent review is below) $18 – totally worth the extra $10!

Lipgloss
Better is Elf’s Lipgloss, at a $1 – you cannot go wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by the glossiness and softness it gave my lips. It’s in my kit if that gives you a clue at how much I love these! Available at eyeslipsface.com
Best is Philosophy’s Lip Shine. It does a better job at moisturizing and the scent/flavors cannot be beat. $10 at Sephora

Lipsticks
Better is the Revlon ColorBurst Lipsticks. The application is smooth, colors are intense and there are a variety of colors to choose from. Available at most drugstores for $6.50-7.00
Best (or should I say WAY better) is Makeup Forevers Rouge Artist Intense Lipsticks. These can’t be beat. There are so many colors to choose from it will make your head spin. Available at Sephora for $19 each

My skin is much more dry and dull in the winter. I thought I would share my favs right now for the winter season!
The Tarte ReCreate anti-aging foundation is creamy and moisturizing. The coverage is great to cover up my dull skin and brighten it up. The holding power is awesome, it doesn’t come off throughout the day. Definitely a MUST for winter!! Even though I am still in my twenties (at least for another few weeks!), it is never too soon to use anti-aging products. I have been using eye cream since I was 20! Tarte is available at Ulta or Sephora and it costs $37 – but it’ll last you a while.
This foundation brush from Eco Tools is a STEAL. I have spent $70+ dollars for a good foundation brush and I got this one for a whopping $6.99!! I wasn’t expecting to like it – I was traveling and wanted to take a cheap foundation brush with me so I didn’t lose one of my expensive ones. Glad I bought it because now I am using this everyday. It doesn’t soak up product so you won’t waste any and it blends foundation very nicely with no streaking. I give it an A+! Available at Ulta.
The limited edition Urban Decay 24/7 Jackpot liners are available at Sephora. I actually bought this for my kit but it’s found it’s way to my personal stash (guess I have to buy another one – oops!). They are fantastic for a little punch of color on the lids when in a hurry or to bump up your everyday look into an evening look. These liners don’t budge at all, are easy to apply and the colors are fabulous. My fav is Ransom, a bright purple that isn’t too overbearing when on the lids. They are also great liners for the waterline. A+++ $39 at Sephora.
I got a sample of this Lip Fusion lipgloss in Bare. It has plumping technology and I actually noticed it a little bit. The color is awesome for a little bit of a nude shimmer with a punch of peach. Looks great with the purple Ransom eyeliner from Urban Decay. It gives my lips moisture, doesn’t feel sticky, and stays on quite well. This color reminds me of cold rosy cheeks! Available at Sephora.

We’ve all been faced with the task of packing for the perfect trip, and when it came down to it I bet that all of us at one time or another have over packed. Consider your honeymoon and try to pack to get that right! Recently as I was traveling and waiting for companions by the airline check in; I spotted this tired looking young couple early on a Sunday morning and I thought to myself that they look like they are on their honeymoon. She was a tiny little thing with this gigantic suitcase on wheels; he was an average sized man with a large bag as well.
As their turn arrived to check in those monsters on wheels – the silent drama played out before me. It was obvious from my vantage point that they both over packed! The bags must have been over the minimum weight allowed by the airline before they tack on additional fees. The scramble began – she opened her bag – there were shoes, clothes, large bottles of lotions and potions and on and on and on.
His bag proved to be just as loaded – he had 4 pairs of shoes! As they worked to distribute and reduce the weight you could see the frustration building and this time I thought what a way to start such an important event.
In order to successfully pack to look fabulous on your honeymoon and get the event started on a positive note first check out your airlines policy for baggage- most are charging per bag and have a 35-50lb limit per bag. So the first step is to avoid packing those big bags, your tendency to over pack large bags is very easy! So grab an average sized bag; buy travel size of your must haves and if your favorite personal products do not come in travel sizes, you can buy small bottles at any department store to make your own and get going! Keep in mind the size limits the FAA has put on carry-on toiletries. Check-out their website for more information.
Now the next few sentences I have to type will be very hard to read ladies – but trust me you will be a little tired and very excited as you go off on your honeymoon and you want to start it off right! So rather than spend a lot of money many outfits to take with you, consider a few outfits and spend more on accessories that can change to look of your limited wardrobe. Kim Kardashian pulls off this seasons trend with a new twist on the smokey eye – instead of black’s and browns to achieve this look we are now seeing purple’s, gray’s, jewel tones and metallic’s.
This look can be very dramatic or can be softened up by just a ring of black liner, gray shadow with a bit of navy shadow for a hint of smokiness and softened up with a soft pink shadow for a sparkle as shown below on Marion Cottiard.

If you feel smokey is not for you but would still like to emphasize your eyes consider using the shade lilac. As shown on the model lilac is applied on the upper lid and a touch heavier under the lower lashes.

If you prefer a natural look, go with the metallics; such as gold and bronze eye shadows. As seen on January Jones very soft yet dramatic.

Keep in mind to truly achieve this season’s look if you focus on the eyes remember to keep the rest of the face natural. Depending on whether or not you focus on your eyes on thing that is essential for you to look your best in your pictures is to add eyelashes, this overall look will keep you looking fresh for your special day.
